Standing Seam Metal Roofing, often referred to as concealed fastener systems, combines the benefits of a concealed clip and fastener with an interlocking design for a smooth, continuous appearance.
The term Standing Seam refers to the way the seam of each interlocking panel is "standing" above the roof surface below, and theoretically, any moisture thereon. Rather than inserting fasteners through the panel, Standing Seam Panels are snapped or seamed together, and are attached to the roof deck with a metal clip from the concealed underside, providing consistent weather tight performance and a clean profile.
Although the first patent for corrugating metal was granted in England in 1829, the first concealed fastener panel was introduced in America in 1969. As a result of extensive research through the testing of coil materials and coating processes, the original Standing Seam design has improved over time and there is now a wide variety of colors, profiles, and intended use manufactured worldwide.
Standing seam metal roof systems are designed and manufactured to assure a long-term solution. Made with high-strength 22, 24, or 26 gauge steel, standing seam panels resist corrosion with the help of zinc, aluminum, or aluminum-zinc alloy metallic coating. Special painted fluorocarbons and metalescent or silicone polyester coatings provide superior resistance to ultraviolet radiation and fading.
